Salt of the Earth

Today I spent the whole day with my extended family.
This is strange because I rarely spend time with my extended family, especially without my immediate family.
One of the few great things about funerals is that people in my family get together.

I realized today, something I often forget.
I come from good stock.

The people I am blessed to have in my family are "salt of the earth" kind of people, as we always say in my house.
As I looked around during the family prayer, I saw people I know well and people I hardly know.
But what I really saw were beautiful souls.

Though there are a lot of people in my family whom the world would not call beautiful (that must be the part of the heritage I got too), they are actually some of the most beautiful people I know.
Most of them are not skinny, stylish, or perfect-looking.
Most of them are strong, large, farmer types.  Some are even "homespun" looking.

But beauty really is deeper than our outsides.

Those people are so many things:
good, kind-hearted, loving, family-oriented, helpful, smart, spiritual, friendly, talented people.

Beauty is on our outsides, our insides, our projections, our actions, our words, our lives.
I've seen beauty.
My family members show it.
