10. It means the school year is coming to a close and I get to enjoy my students' funny little personalities. Time slips through my fingers on the way to summer vacation. Bittersweet I say, bittersweet.
9. Some people pick May as the month in which the day the world will end should happen. Then they switch it to October, but hey! May was the first choice.
8. April showers bring May flowers. Usually. But not always in Utah. Sometimes it is the snow showers that bring May rain showers that bring flowers, but either way, I love that the tulips are out, the sun starts to set later and later, and the grass is green and fresh.
7. BBQs! Though I am somewhat of an anti-meat eater I can't help but love a good BBQ! I love the gathering that begins to happen with nicer weather and fresher foods. BBQs bring a special kind of fun that I have loved forever.
6. Memorial Day is one of my favorite holidays (I know that's weird, but it is) and I love being able to remember those I love, feel pride in my heritage, remember the sacrafices others have made for me, and feel of the special reminders that come from seeing life from an eternal perspective. I have a special connection to Memorial Day because of my family's military background, but I also just love the simplicity and beauty of a holiday like that.
5. Hiking! I love that I get to start hiking again in May. April is still too cold and snowy in the higher altitudes but May begins to be the perfect time for hikes that aren't too long or high. Which is perfect since my hiking lungs need some breaking in every year before I start getting to the hard stuff later in the summer.
4. Summer fashion begins to be a part of my wardrobe. Sandals, crops, light tees, espadrilles, and shimmery textures are always classics. I love putting away the sweaters and trousers for a few months.
3. Sun-bleached hair. How I love that I don't have to dye my hair as it loves to change on its own with the seasons. Last summer I was out in the sun so much that I still have leftover sun-streaks that I fought all winter. This summer, I can't wait to embrace the blonde again!
2. We do our Heifer Fundraiser in May every year at school! I LOVE teaching about peace, conflict resolution, famous peacemakers, solutions to poverty, and friendship. I wish the world could embody the discussions and hopes of my 8 year old students when we are studying this unit. These kids make a huge difference for others and really take this unit and accompanying fundraiser seriously. I love it!
1. May is my birthday month! And though I'm not nearly as excited as my little student was for his birthday a couple of weeks ago (imagine weeks of screaming and planning and pointing to the calendar), I do love having a time every year to celebrate who I am. I get to celebrate, reflect, and appreciate what makes me who I am. My birthday is the one day of the year when I really feel happy to celebrate me. Birthday post to come, on my birthday or round about. :)
So there you have it. Those are the top ten reaons that May is the best month of the year. And no one can deny it.

3 things to make my day worthwhile:
you were born on Memorial Day!
Mom...I know! Maybe that is why it is one of my favorite holidays? Memorial day is fabulous!
I think you should celebrate yourself every day. Just celebrate really hard on your birthday. #wordsofwisdom
